Network Environments for Indigenous Health Research (NEIHR)

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) launched in 2018 the Network Environments for Indigenous Health Research (NEIHR) Program, an $105.5M investment over 16 years. The NEIHR Program is led by the Institute of Indigenous Peoples’ Health (IIPH) and co-led by the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH). This Program is supported financially by all 13 CIHR Institutes.

The NEIHR Program has set the foundation towards establishing a national network of Centres focused on strengthening Indigenous research capacity, training and mentoring, and supporting Indigenous community-based health research that reflects the priorities and values of Indigenous Peoples.

The purpose of the NEIHR is to establish a solid foundation for Indigenous health research driven by and grounded in First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities in Canada. This Program is built in 4 phases: Development Grants, Operating Grants and two Operating Grants Renewals (2024-25 and 2029-30).
